Passive sampling offers several advantages over conventional sampling. The sampler is in place for a longer period of time (often days or weeks), accumulating the analytes. The result is an average of the concentration during this time, which eliminates the risk of non-detection of, for example, occasional peaks in emitted pollutants. We offer passive samplers for non-polar organic compounds (e g PAH, PCB, PCDD), for polar organic compounds (e g drug substances and water soluble pesticides), and for metals and anions. A common property of these three sampler types is that they exclusively sample the bioavailable fraction, i e the part that can be taken up by organisms.

Passive sampling for volatile organic compounds (VOC) allows for estimation of time-weighted average concentrations. Our passive sampler for VOC can be used for several types of water, although it is primarily designed for monitoring of groundwater wells. It provides an easy and efficient way to perform field work. The recommended sampling time is two weeks. After recovery of the sampler, an aliquot is transferred to a vial and analyzed using standard methods. Suitable packages include OV-5 BTEX and OV-6 Chlorinated aliphatics.
